This Spring 2023 private reserve tea is unique in our shou puerh offering over the years, in all the best ways. Complex, layered, and very rich with woodsy, roasted notes of clean deep forest floor, dark coffee, cacao, and aged tangerine peel around the edges. The slight astringency around the edges gives nice structure and depth to the tea. Bulang Mountain teas are known for their balanced flavors and full body, as well as great patience as the tea transforms over many steepings.

Shou puerh is particularly enjoyable in cooler, quieter, and more meditative seasons and times of day, due to its full body and strong flavor. Shou puerh is an excellent companion for your meditative morning ritual, and our primary recommendation for those seeking to make the switch from coffee to tea.

Origin: Bulang Mountain, Xishuangbanna, China

Living Teas can be steeped many times. Enjoy small cups of tea, re-steeping the same leaves, rather than making a large pot or mug all at once.

· 2-3 grams of tea (approx. 1 teaspoon)
· 210°F water (near boiling)
· 3 seconds first steeping, then lengthening a few seconds with each brew

We recommend brewing this tea with less leaves than you might be accustomed to (2-3 grams) for a personal session with short (2-3 second) initial steepings as the bud-rich cake produces a very strong tea. Over-brewing muddies the flavors instead of emphasizing the complex refinement of the tea.

Mahogany is made entirely from tea from Zhang Jia San Dui Village, an area well-known for cultivating tea that has a balanced and full-bodied taste. At an elevation of 1600 meters, most of the tea growing there is old plantation and grows naturally. The village leaders have not permitted use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides since 2016. The village comprises about 70 households of mostly the Bulang Tribe group with a smattering of Dai, Hani, and Han families as well.

The tea is a first flush of spring 2023 harvest that was wet-piled in the summer of 2023.
