Sei 清 ("Purity") - Handthrown Tea Bowl
Ben Suga
- Description
Beautiful hand thrown tea bowl by a fellow tea lover and New York artist, Ben Suga. The lip of the bowl has a gentle tulip flare that fits comfortably on the lip. The bowls are clearly thrown by potter who understands the intricacies of teaware, aesthetically and functionally perfect for tea. There is some variation in clay color as well as bowl size so please expect some wabi-sabi in matching bowls exactly. These are hand-thrown and personal so each bowl is unique, celebrating the perfection of the imperfect.
Sei 清, Purity, is the third of Sen no Rikyu's four fundamental principles of tea ceremony. Purity refers to cleanliness and orderliness, both in the material and spiritual sense, and an appreciation for simplicity and open-mindedness.
NOTE: These bowls will absorb the oils of the tea and darken with use. If you wish to preserve the light color, reserve these bowls for use with light-colored teas only.
