A Deeper Way to Learn

This is not just a delivery of tea. It is a steady way to understand Puerh through direct experience.

Puerh is not just another tea.

It is layered, alive, patient, and endlessly revealing. It changes with age. It carries the imprint of place, season, storage, and time. For those who spend time getting to know Puerh, it becomes the tea they return to every day for years.

The Puerh Club was created to offer a more intimate way into that world.

Each month, we select a Puerh that reflects the season and exemplifies the qualities of a Living Tea: depth, integrity, vitality, and real character. Some months bring darker, grounding, more settled teas. Others bring brighter, greener, more uplifting expressions. Over time, the club becomes more than a subscription. It becomes a way to deepen your practice, and build a real relationship with Puerh.

Discover the depth and diversity of Puerh.

This club is perfect for you if:

  • you are Puerh-curious and want a trusted place to begin
  • you already love Puerh and want to explore more of its range
  • you want to learn by tasting, not just reading
  • you want your tea practice to deepen through steady, seasonally guided exploration
  • you love the idea of rare teas arriving with context, intention, and care

This is also for the person who has tried Puerh once and knows there is more there. The person who wants help understanding what they’re tasting. The person who wants a deeper relationship with tea, but not a rigid or elitist one.

Why people fall in love with Puerh

Puerh is one of the most compelling tea traditions in the world because it refuses to stay flat.

Some Puerhs feel dark, earthy, and deeply grounding. Some are bright, floral, herbaceous, or gently uplifting. Age changes the tea. Storage changes the tea. Season changes the experience of drinking it. The more time you spend with Puerh, the more it reveals. That is part of why people become devoted to it.

Because it offers depth. Because it rewards attention. Because it becomes a tea you do not simply consume, but build a relationship with.

At Living Tea, Puerh sits at the heart of what we do. Colin has spent decades in daily Puerh practice, with extensive travel through Yunnan and Taiwan and deep relationships with farmers and collectors closest to these traditions. That background shapes how Living Tea introduces people to Puerh: with reverence, clarity, and genuine care.

July's Puerh

Heavy Branch

Duo Te Li Special Grade Liu Bao, 1990's

Heavy Branch is grounding and earthy, yet it feels like pouring fresh spring water through your whole system. The earth element arriving in fire season. The branches beginning to droop with heaviness. The first nip of yin on a July afternoon.

Stems present in the leaf contribute to the rice sweetness in the flavor. Young wood and camphor come through patient steepings. Liu Bao is not puerh. It is true black tea, hei cha. Hei cha is something else entirely: post-fermented, microbially transformed, and perfect for aging.

Pay attention. The complexity here is quiet.

June's Puerh

Big Leaf Medicine

Medicine Aroma Sheng Puerh Brick, 1980's

This brick, pressed sometime in the 80s or 90s from big-leaf material, has spent decades naturally fermenting. The taste is mellow and rounded: dried fruit, dates, a touch of caramel up front, then aged wood and camphor, with a subtle herbal note that never sharpens into bitterness. The finish is long and warming, with a gentle huigan and a woody-sweet aftertaste.

Lower in catechins than finer material, huang pian aged this long is notably smooth. It’s easy on the body and the mind. The qi is centering and calming. A good afternoon tea, and a good tea for those who find strong puerh qi too much. Unpretentious, sweet, woodsy, deeply mellowed. A tea drinker’s tea.

May's Puerh

Spring River

Menghai Tender Shoots Shou Puerh, Mid 1990's

A tea of quiet depth. Spring River is a loose ripe pu-erh from Menghai, Yunnan and crafted from tender shoots harvested in the 1990's. It carries that age with understated grace. The liquor is thick and oily, settling into the cup like a slow-moving river after rain. Notes of cream and warm milk rise from the steam, while the body evokes a muddied forest floor in late spring — earthy, soft, and alive with the kind of dampness and petrichor that follows an afternoon shower. A clean, smooth presence that's calming as the strong spring energies are rising.

April's Puerh

Threshold

Xiaguan Sheng Puerh Brick

This is a tea that clears the head while anchoring the body. For April, that balance feels right: the season of emergence, of ground thawing and energy rising. This tea mirrors it.
Twenty years in, this brick has arrived at the threshold of aged puerh. It's the the precise moment when a sheng puerh crosses into aged territory without losing the clarity and lift that define a greener sheng puerh. It doesn't have the deep calm of an older sheng or the earthiness of a shou; it carries both worlds at once. That in-between quality is the sweet spot for lovers of aged sheng puerh.

Why join the club instead of buying one-off?

You can absolutely buy Puerh one tea at a time. But the club creates something different. It gives you continuity. It removes guesswork. It helps you build familiarity month by month instead of starting over every time you want to try something new.

Over time, you begin to notice more. You start recognizing the differences between younger and older teas. Between grounding and uplifting expressions. Between teas that feel like late winter and teas that feel like spring emergence. You develop the language for what you taste and how the tea makes you feel.

That is what makes this club so valuable. It is not just a more convenient way to buy tea. It is a better way to deepen your relationship with Puerh.
