Pre-Qingming Long Jing Green Tea 2025

I’ve been looking for a premium organic Long Jing Green Tea for 15 years. Unfortunately, it’s hard to find as most green teas in this region are grown with chemical fertilizers and pesticides. You can imagine my excitement upon finding one grown in a bio-diverse garden free of any chemicals by people who truly love tea - grown in harmony with nature. That love comes through with Jade Dragon. Pan-roasted by hand, the tea is incredibly fresh (harvested in March 2025), grassy, vegetal, sweet and buttery. The body is round and smooth yielding a tea with strong enlivening Qi. The superior early season first-picking known as Ming Qian or Pre-Qingming requires it be produced from the first spring shoots prior to the Qingming Festival on the 5th of April each year (approximately). In accordance with the Chinese farming calendar, the national holiday between April 1–4, means RAIN. After the rain, the temperature heats up causing the tea plant to grow faster. When the tea bud becomes too big it begins to lose complexity in the brewed flavor, therefore the pre-qingming tea is considered best.

Brewing Instructions

Brewing Method: Gong fu with small pots and cups, or my favorite, leaves brewed directly in a light colored bowl, revealing the green brew. Make sure not to overbrew or use too many leaves as green teas are more delicate and can turn bitter.

Water Temp: 180-190 D Fahrenheit

Steep Time: Short initial steeping (2-3 seconds) then longer as the session progresses, unless brewing leaves in a bowl.

Green tea contains high levels of antioxidants, particularly catechins such as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Benefits may include fighting inflammation and oxidative stress. The caffeine in green tea is balanced by the actions of theanine, which has a calming effect to offset the effects of caffeine.
