Echo of Stillness

Ginseng Fragrance Loose Shou Puerh - 1980's
$44.00
Size2oz

Echo of Stillness is aged Shou Puerh at its finest—deep, grounding, and quietly powerful. The large, dark leaves open with aromas of smoke, spice, wood, and sweet milk, drifting through dried flowers. There’s a gentle brightness to the brew, like sunlight filtering through a forest canopy. This tea recalls the old tea houses of Taiwan and Hong Kong—slow afternoons, aged Puerh, and the calm that follows each sip. Its energy is steady and tranquil, inviting stillness from the very first cup.

Sourced from Jiangcheng, in southern Yunnan near the borders of Laos and Vietnam, this 1980s loose-leaf Puerh reflects a transitional era in tea making. Grown from Yunnan’s broadleaf trees and aged through traditional Hong Kong storage, it has developed remarkable depth and harmony. The once-grassy tones have transformed into rich, camphorous, and subtly medicinal notes with a smooth, full-bodied liquor and almost no astringency.

Echo of Stillness embodies the mature elegance of time—an authentic aged Puerh for moments of reflection and rest.

Our favorite way to brew Echo of Stillness is in a smaller sidehandle pot with big bowls for slow sipping.

Ginseng Fragrance Loose Shou Puerh – 1980's

Jiangcheng County, Yunnan

Hong Kong Stored

For its age and quality, this tea offers exceptional value. Originating from Jiangcheng, a region in southern Yunnan bordering Laos and Vietnam, its story reaches back to the 1980s—an era when Puerh was transitioning from traditional to modern production. Though less famous than Yiwu or Menghai, Jiangcheng’s mountainous terrain, humidity, and wild broadleaf trees produced raw materials with extraordinary character: strong, aromatic, and deeply earthy. In that time, most tea from Jiangcheng was purchased by state-owned factories and blended into large productions. Only a small amount circulated independently as loose tea—later known as “Old Loose Tea.” Unpressed and freely traded, these leaves aged naturally under diverse conditions, developing complex, individual personalities. Over time, Jiangcheng teas became known for their woody depth, gentle ginseng tones, and floral undertones—a marriage of strength and refinement.

This particular batch of 1980s Jiangcheng loose tea underwent traditional Hong Kong storage, an aging method that brought the tea to new maturity. The humid environment softened its structure and deepened its flavor, transforming grassy rawness into rich, camphorous, medicinal complexity. The liquor is thick, smooth, and beautifully balanced, with almost no astringency and a long, resonant finish.

Did you know?

Benefits of Puerh Tea

For thousands of years, Puerh has been the best multi-functional beverage you've never heard of.

Stress Relief

Puerh tea contains the phyto-chemicals GABA and theanine, which have been attributed to lower stress levels. These phyto-chemicals increase the production of melatonin, which can aid in better sleep and a calmer demeanor throughout the day.

Calm Energy

Thanks to the caffeine in Puerh tea, drinking a cup a day can help to increase your energy levels and focus. Every 8-ounce cup of Puerh contains about 60 to 70 milligrams of caffeine, and the naturally-occurring polyphenols in tea slow the release of caffeine in the body. (Read: No 2pm crash.) Compared to the 105 milligrams in a standard cup of coffee, this makes Puerh a good choice for people who find themselves too jittery after just one cup of coffee.

Increased Immunity

Puerh tea is high in antioxidants, vitamin C, and disease-fighting
catechins. Since Puerh is fermented, it has higher concentrations of these antioxidants than non-fermented teas, supporting your body's ability to maintain high levels of immunity and overall well-being.

Reduced Inflammation

Puerh contains high levels of polyphenols (flavonoids, catechins and theaflavin), which are not only known for their antioxidant activity, but their anti-inflammatory properties as well.

Healthy Gut Microbiome

Because Puerh is fermented, it contains probiotics that when consumed regularly, contribute to a balanced and robust gastrointestinal (GI) system. By regularly drinking Puerh tea, you can help maintain healthy flora throughout your digestive system.
