For those of us on the path of tea, our teaware is never just an object. Each piece carries something — the clay it came from, the hands that shaped it, the practice it has witnessed. Over time, these things become quiet companions in our daily life.
We're excited to share five handmade teapot and tea bowl sets from Washington ceramicist, Arturo Alvarez — and for the first time, an invitation to commission your own teapot with a wood sidehandle you find yourself.

Commission a Custom Teapot
Your Teapot Begins with a walk
For the first time, we are inviting our community into the creation of something truly singular — a wood sidehandle teapot commissioned just for you, handcrafted by Arturo Alvarez.
Choose between sizes, select a glaze, and then find a stick or branch from your own life––a walk in the woods, a moment in your garden, a piece of something that already means something to you. You’ll ship your chosen handle directly to Arturo, and he’ll do the rest.
This is not just a purchase. The stick you find, the glaze you choose, and the clay Arturo shapes — all of it becomes part of your tea ritual.
How It Works
1. Choose your size:
- 300mL - ideal for solo practice or intimate tea moments shared with someone close
- 500mL - best for a shared practice with you and 3-4 friends
2. Choose your glaze (see options below):

- Dark Chocolate
3. Find your sidehandle:
- After you reserve your commission, we'll send you the specifications for the wood you need to find — size, condition, how to prepare it, and where to ship it.
- Then go for a walk in the woods.
- Ship the stick you find to Arturo.
4. Arturo creates your custom teapot:
- Once your stick arrives, Arturo begins.
- Please allow approximately six weeks from the close of the commission window for your teapot to be completed and shipped to you.
Important Details
- Only 10 commissions are being offered. Once they are filled, this opportunity closes.
- This commission window is open for two weeks only, or until all 10 spots are filled — whichever comes first.
- You are responsible for the cost of shipping your stick to Arturo. A deadline and full shipping details will be provided upon reserving.

Arturo Alvarez is a Washington-based ceramicist whose work is rooted in the wilderness— both literally and philosophically. He forages wood from the forests near his studio to create theraw sidehandles that have become a signature of his teapots, each one a reminder of where we come from and what we are connected to.
Arturo's work is guided by a quiet intention: to create something so alive in the hands that it promptsa moment of self-recognition — a small reawakening to the natural world. Every teapot he makes isencouraged to take on its own identity.
