How Do I Practice?

Prepare Your Water and Space
- Heat fresh water using a kettle, treating it with care as part of the mindfulness process.
- Set up your tea space intentionally with essential tools (kettle, teapot, tea bowl) in a calm, uncluttered environment.
Pause and Center Yourself
- Sit in silence for a few moments. Breathe deeply, letting go of distractions and worries. Cultivate a beginner’s mind and fully arrive at the moment.
Warm the Teaware
- Pour hot water into your teapot and tea bowl to preheat them. Discard the water into a waste bowl.
Add Tea Leaves
- Gently place the tea leaves into the teapot, taking a moment to appreciate their aroma and form.
Awaken the Tea
- Pour hot water over the leaves in a steady motion and immediately discard the first steeping. This step cleanses and opens the leaves.
Brew and Pour
- Pour water over the tea leaves again, filling the teapot. Steep for a few seconds, adjusting time based on the type of tea.
- Pour the tea into your bowl in a smooth, deliberate motion.
Engage Your Senses
- Hold the bowl at your heart, appreciating its warmth, aroma, and the beauty of the tea.
- Take small sips, fully immersing yourself in the flavor, texture, and sensations.
- Observe your thoughts and emotions without judgment, anchoring yourself in the moment.
Repeat with Presence
- Continue steeping and pouring tea as long as the leaves yield flavor, savoring each cup with mindfulness and gratitude.
Closing with Care
- As your tea practice comes to an end, take a moment to honor the experience and transition back to your day with mindfulness.
