Where full fermentation pushes toward depth and darkness, holding back leaves something of the leaf's original character intact, a trace of wild fragrance carried through into the cup.

The result is brighter than typical shou, with a lively, vital, subtly awakening quality. Brewed strong, the liquor is creamy, almost buttery, and completely clean with no funk, mustiness, or anything that takes steepings to wash off. Its qi is even and steady, easy to return to again and again without it ever feeling ordinary.

This tea comes from the same couple behind Emergence and our private reserve shou dragon balls, Inner Light. They travel by motorcycle through Yunnan twice a year, sampling harvests village by village, producing only a small quantity each season. This level of attention and craftsmenship is evident in the cup.

Xiao Ju Shou Puerh– 2017

Mengsong, Menghai County, Yunnan, China
