Luminous Gate is a vibrant, aromatic old-tree Purple-Red tea that engages the senses with a deep ruby hue and honey-sweet, layered flavors. Made from rare purple-buds and leaves, Luminous Gate offers a delicate, smooth balance of floral sweetness, berries and hibiscus. Refreshing and uplifting while maintaining the depth of red tea, we find this tea more complex than Gateway of Spirit, a long-time favorite in the Living Tea catalogue.

The name Luminous Gate speaks to the dimension of the self that is connected to the gate that we access through meditation. It is the gate of emptiness, to the ground of Being and potential, out of which all form manifests. Identification with the presence of fear diminishes as wisdom, defined as “knowledge of emptiness,” and evidenced as ease in the face of the unknown, emerges.

Brewing Instructions

Brewing Method: We suggest starting with 3-4 grams as this is a flavorful tea, and decide if you want to brewer it stronger with more leaf. Our favorite method is Sidehandle Bowl Tea, but it also brews nicely gongfu. For brewing method guidance, please refer to the Brewing Guide on Living Tea’s website.

Water Temp: 195 D Fahrenheit

Steep Time: Very short initial steeping (2-3 seconds) then longer as the session progresses. Yields 8-10 nice full-bodied cups. The practice of short steepings is different than European tea whereby you steep the tea for a long time.
